It was a few months back when I first met Kayla. Kayla messaged me through social media, she seemed like the real deal but it’s always a worry to make a big investment in yourself/someone you barely know. After all, this program is built on teamwork and she is the coach, you are the player. I can completely vouch for Kayla’s work ethic and her role in helping shape mine. At the time I signed up with Kayla my workouts were repetitive, the same exercises I have done for the past ten years. I was pretty nervous about how hard the program might be or that I would not be able to do it. However, I was honest with Kayla about my past workout habits and she didn’t throw me to the wolves. I have always been able to complete my workouts and have been challenged throughout. She monitors your progress and makes it more challenging as you become stronger. She also can tailor your workout program to whatever equipment/gym you belong to. For me, I started at the gym, then COVID started. She was able to keep my going throughout the lockdown with my powerblocks, bands and a few other items.
Now let’s talk about the big daddy, nutrition! Before meeting Kayla I was eating out numerous times per day and had no knowledge of nutrition. My idea of a healthy meal was a foot long subway sandwich with a diet pop. Pizza was a staple, and pizza goes great with beer right? Kayla taught me how to track my Macros, (Calories into proteins, carbs, fats) and we began to learn what my body needed to A.- Maintain its current weight and B.- What my body needed to lose weight. Once we found out these items, Kayla challenged me to a slow deficit, (Calories under maintenance calories). I would finally hit a number where Kayla suggested I not go any lower and throughout my 12 week program I lost 20 pounds while increasing strength and muscle tone.
My current 12 week phase is about strength and I am slowly increasing my calories now from before. I am actually finding it hard sometimes to eat enough calories, (Your body really gets in a rhythm when you stay consistent). However, that as well will pass and I am excited for the future. There have only been a few times in my life where I feel proud of where I am at physically. Now is definitely one of those times and I don’t plan on stopping. So if you are reading this and are nervous for the reasons I mentioned above that is normal but you can do it. Remember, you don’t have to be the strongest person in the world, but why not try and be the strongest version of yourself?
